Invitation

Dear colleagues,

Recent therapeutic advances in the diagnosis and management of NSCLC have created new hopes and brought an optimistic view of the problem.

In relation to neuroendocrine tumors, including SCLC, there is an increased mobility in research, but no real advances. International scientific

meetings offer opportunities for communication between old and new scientists in this area of research for exchanging experience, ideas and information.

For this reason, we organize our International Postgraduate Symposium on Lung Cancer during 10-13 June 2010.

In order to enhance cultural exchange as well, the setting of the Symposium will be in the island of Samos, a great cradle of civilization in ancient time.

Samos, one of the biggest islands of the northeastern Aegean Sea, birthplace of Goddess Hera, was one of the leading commercial and marine centers

of Greece in the 6th century BC, although it is believed that it was inhabited much earlier (3rd millennium BC). Samos is also famous as a birth place

of Pythagoras the philosopher and mathematician, of Aristarchus the mathematician and astronomer, of Koleos the first to sail in the Atlantic Ocean,

of Aesop the author of the fables, of Damo the female mathematician and of other important people of the ancientry.

The Eupalinos’ tunnel, a masterpiece of ancient engineering, is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site as the first tunnel in history to be methodically

dug from both ends of the island. Herodotus described ‘Samaina’, the Samian ships, constructions under the care of tyrant Polycrates, which made Samos

one of the three dominant city-states of the Aegean Sea. Samos is also famous for its golden sandy beaches, its rich green landscape and its picturesque

traditional villages.

Lastly, in order to encourage scientists in the demanding area of lung cancer research, there will be an award of 1.500€ for the best unpublished original research

study and another award of 500€ for the best poster.
